Mother’s Day is all about celebrating and thanking mom. While gifts, flowers and chocolates are always welcomed in my home, I know the one thing my mom really wants to do is spend time together. For her, nothing beats an afternoon lazing around with my sister and I, gossiping & giggling over a few cups of tea.
Though we do have our annual Mother’s Day brunch, I was inspired by her simple pleasures to create an easy at home project with the help of a couple friends. Spending an afternoon at La Merceria ~ my favourite cafe & home accessory store in the city ~ I was delighted to style a Modern Mother’s Day High Tea. Using the quaint accessories supplied by La Merceria and inspired by David’s Tea Spring Collection I put together a little table that’s modern and artisanal, because simple pleasures should never be overdone.
Here are a few ways to make your Mother’s Day High Tea modern for mom:
- Used mismatched mugs and home accessories: the arm on this tin kettle and ceramic mugs are the perfect teal against a coral, patterned table cloth. And choose a unique mug for mom; the one with the rabbit inside stands out against the others, while offering a dainty added touch.
- Think outside of the sandwich box: Traditional high tea typically serves tea sandwiches but this wooden serving board is the perfect place for a lovely cheese and digestive platter. A new twist on your traditional high tea and wine & cheese, which is perfect for our family since my mom doesn’t drink but loves her cheese!
- Don’t over think accent pieces: ceramic gold sugar spoons and wooden hearts add functionality for serving while providing textural depth. Try tossing a couple pillows or throws (in either of the colour palettes) on your chairs for when the weather cools down.
For me, this table reflects the laid back style of an afternoon spent in my backyard with my favourite ladies; one of those afternoons where the evening slowly creeps into night, as you’ve failed to notice time because you’re having too much fun.
I’m also happy to launch another contest c/o David’s Tea! One lucky i’m a little reader will be the first to sample The Spring Collection ~ a new collection of refreshing, exotic teas from all over the world. Just leave a comment below sharing your mom’s favourite tea flavour and you’ll be entered to win the collection featured in this post!
